Pizza Delivery Man For Jesus

I find it cool how we see God using the little people, or those who don’t feel like the strongest in their faith to lead others closer to Him.

On our last day working on the primary school our ministry contact, Captain Sandra, called me over to talk with her. I remember thinking, alright, time for us to get back in the grove of things. I bet she has another task for me to work on. She instead asked me to sit down and she pulled out her ipad and began to interview me.

She was asking me questions about my faith, what brought me to Jamaica and how the trip was going in general. What instantly went through my mind is that someone else on my team would be much better than me to talk about this because they seem stronger in their faith. At least, I certainly didn’t feel that strong in my faith compared to others.

It was so hot outside that during our morning VBS and our afternoon work projects my main goal was to stay by the fan:) I did spend time with the kids and I did help with the work projects but I know that I could have worked a little harder.

So, it was odd to me that she would want to interview me. Surely someone else would be better. Someone more committed, or harder working or stronger in their faith. Yet, I was the one being interviewed!

I was nervous and felt unprepared but I felt like God wanted me to do the interview so I did it to see what would happen.

At the end of the interview Captain Sandra asked me, “if there is something that you could tell the kids both here and at home, what would it be?” I said, “sometimes it feels like God is asking you to do something outside of your comfort zone or something that you are not ready to do. Sometimes you might wrestle with Him about whether or not you feel ready. It can be scary if it’s out of your comfort zone. But I would say, definitely listen to Him and step out into whatever He is leading you to do because it will be worth it for you or someone else. It will either bring you or others closer to Him. I’ll admit I was a bit nervous about coming on this trip. It’s not something I would normally do and I wasn’t sure if I could do it. After wrestling with God for a while I eventually said yes. I am so glad that I did! This week has been a blast. The kids that I was able to meet were amazing and I feel like I was able to lead others closer to Jesus while also growing in my own faith.”

This ended my interview. What a relief!

Someone once told me that sometimes God calls on people to do something for just one moment, something that he has called them to do. I believe that He planned for me to come to Jamaica so that I could give my testimony to these kids through this interview because as I did it, I know that my own faith was strengthened and I trust that it will help to strengthen the faith of those who hear it as well.

God uses whatever vessel He choses to bring Him glory and make His name great. What a privilege it was in the space of that interview to be like a pizza delivery man for Jesus! A carrier of His heart and encouragement to a group of kids. So cool!
