I have been extremely blessed to have participated in three mission trips since I came to know Christ. Being a veteran I know that each trip and location consists of different experiences and challenges that God would test me with. This trip has been extremely challenging to me in a way that I thought God would never test me. Over this past week I have been working with kids at Salvation Army School for The Blind. Although I knew I would be working with blind kids before I came, I had no idea how much they would intimidate me. The first day I was standoffish because the kids were different to me and I didn’t know how exactly to communicate with them because it wasn’t normal to me. The second day I tried harder to participate with the kids, and I was humbled and surprised to find out that they were smart, fun, and NORMAL. As the week progressed I formed personal relationships with a lot of kids…playing, laughing, and teaching them. Now that I am parting from Jamaica tomorrow I can say this was truly a way of God testing and having me grow with him.   A lesson I will take home to share is that God works in mysterious ways and that anybody participating in a short term mission trip needs to open their mind, hearts, and ears to really listen and seek out God’s will.
