In 2004, my family took our first ever, out of the country vacation to Ocho Rios, Jamaica. I was in tenth grade, it was Christmas time, and we spent a week on the beautiful beaches of Jamaica at an all-inclusive resort.  Everywhere I turned, there were tourist people who came from all over the world to see and experience “Jamaica.”  They came to see the Jamaica that you see in the vacation magazines or on the travel channel with beautiful white beaches, ever-present sunshine, ultra-clear turquoise blue water, and vivid colors of the Caribbean, which paint a picture perfect getaway.

My experience in Jamaica was just that: the experience you see painted in a travel magazine. But, on our last day there, we took an adventure outside the walls of the all-inclusive resort- an adventure, which changed my views on Jamaica forever. When I stepped outside of the walls of the resort, my eyes were opened to the heart of Jamaica, the needs of the country, and the needs of the people. No longer did I see just the “picture perfect” image of Jamaica, rather I saw hearts that were broken, the orphans who desired to be loved, the lack of hope in the eyes of the people, and the needs that can only be fulfilled by love which comes from the Lord.

While spending time in Jamaica, God stirred up a passion and desire in my heart to serve the people of Jamaica to share the love and hope that only comes from the Lord. I want to be a tool to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to the country of Jamaica.

As the new project developer for Jamaica, I am very excited about the opportunities to serve in Jamaica this summer. Opportunities to love the lost, feed the homeless, and bring hope to a group of people who need it most.  We are currently in the process of contacting ministry partners and developing quality ministry interactions for our summer mission trips, which will bring even more love and hope to the local communities of Jamaica.

Despite all the needs of the country, God can use you! God can use you as a tool to bring laughter and joy, hope and redemption.

Is God calling you to serve in Jamaica?
Is He calling you to step out and bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth?
Will you share love and hope with the people of Jamaica?
